What is the ‘Global Big Latch On’?
Global Big Latch On events take place at registered locations around the world, where people gather together to breastfeed and offer peer support to each other. Their friends, family and community join this celebration to promote and support breastfeeding. Volunteers from within the community host each location, hosting a Global Big Latch On event creates a lasting support network for the community. North Devon & Torridge Global Big Latch On 2019
Last year we hosted a Global Big Latch On event in Barnstaple along side LaLeche League North Devon. The afternoon (although a little soggy at times), was a great success. We had cakes a plenty & there was lots of chatter.
Total attending a whopping 91!
33 breastfeeding mothers
26 latches at the count
48 babies and children
10 other supporters consisting of dads, mums, midwives, grandma’s and peer supporters
We had people walking by who wanted to know what we were doing. Everyone was positive about it and thought it was a great idea. A mum with a younger baby said it had increased her confidence to breastfeed in public and lots more people became aware of the support Early Nourishment Community Interest Company and La Leche League North Devon offer in this area!
2020
Unsurprisingly this year, due to COVID19, we were unable to host an event. We did contemplate a ‘virtual’ latch on but decided that it just wouldn’t be the same! We have lots of ideas stored up to make sure the North Devon & Torridge Global Big Latch On 2021 is even bigger and better though.
